Over half of Minnesota-grown soybeans are exported. More than a quarter of those beans go to markets in China, making them our single largest soybean export customer. Even armed with the knowledge of China’s market importance, dozens of Minnesota farmers now have an even broader understanding of the market’s magnitude, potential and the work that has gone into cultivating it.

Weed Control Gets More Complicated

Three years ago, Jonathan Wolff of Wood Lake, Minn., noticed that Roundup wasn’t controlling the weeds on a 300-acre farm he rents. The farm is fertilized with manure from a local dairy. The problem weeds, mostly waterhemp with some pigweed and lambsquarter, have been particularly hard to control in soybeans.
